Biddeford-based telecommunications firm GWI has just opened a new cloud computing data center in Portland and it anticipated to benefit about fifty businesses.
The Maine Data Center at 340 Cumberland Avenue., Which opened July 15 at home saves companies infrastructure and technical expenses, and provides secure access to corporate information, as per to a press release from GWI. Primary Space will be firmed on a first come, first served basis, and companies can choose the how much of server space they need. GWI plans to develop the data center as the customer demand requires.
The data center has several underground power sources, a plant emergency and multiple connections of fiber optic GWI secure, according to GWI. It also has a fire redundant cooling system and suppression systems to protect customer business information.
CEO of GWI Fletcher Kittredge stated in the release that the Maine businesses is compete, win also creating economic opportunities there, and company is going to have work out how best to take benefit of cloud computing
A 2011 national survey of 2,000 technology officials conducted by industry analyst Gartner Inc. found that nearly half of CIOs expect to use cloud computing in the next five years to grow their businesses and reduce costs. Cloud computing allows companies to backup data or add capabilities without spending in new infrastructure or software.
GWI provides Internet and telephone services to businesses and residential clients, and recently opened a new division, Northern Data Centers, in Portland to give data centers and cloud computing services. The company has 70 employees and annual revenues of $ 14 million. GWI is also leading the initiative Three Ring Binder to expand broadband service to rural areas of the state.
