Dell has announced about signing an agreement to buy Ocarina Network, a provider of data deduplication solutions. The amount at which the deal was sealed has not been declared yet.

In the press release which has Dell’s announcement of acquiring Ocarina, Murli Thurmale, CEO of Ocarina, said that the acquisition takes deduplication not only to the primary storage but also to other key areas of storage such as backup, migration, replication and tiering. The release also says that Ocarina has brought high performance deduplication ability to complement EqualLogic solutions that are provided by Dell. Brad Anderson, Senior vice president of Enterprise Product Group, Dell was of the opinion that a very important component of Dell’s data management portfolio and the EqualLogic solution is provided by Ocarina.
