Symantec Delivers New Updates to Backup Exec 2010 to Protect More Data and Enhance User Experience

Symantec Corporation announced today fresh product updates to its sector leading information protection solution Backup Exec 2010. The most recent version of Backup Exec 2010 allows users to reduce installation time through improved Magicians , delivers new in-product direction for optimum Windows info recovery, and provides extra platform support, including Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

"With Backup Exec 2010, Symantec improved its virtual machine protection and added fully integrated data deduplication and archiving technologies -- all of which helped organizations protect more data and utilize less storage," said Amit Walia, vice president of product management of Backup Exec, Symantec.

Data Protection for Linux File Systems from CTERA

CTERA Networks is giving the Linux Ext3 file system extra data security as new snapshot capacities.
CTERA's Next3 open source file system builds on the Ext3 file system to provide thin volume pictures and point-in-time recovery, change checking and retention of prior file versions, features the company asserts are low in Linux Volume Chief ( LVM ) snapshotting capacities. Next3 is approved under GPL and could eventually find its way into the Linux Kernel via the Ext3 or Ext4 file systems.
The file system is also the foundation of the organization's Cloud-Attached Storage appliances, the C200 and CloudPlug, which mix local and cloud info storage and backup and are directed at smaller businesses and service suppliers.
