According to a survey conducted by AMI, an IT research company, 750,000 small business enterprises are using the Software-as-a-Service model for integrating various enterprise applications in their business processes. Also, 20,000 medium enterprises are using SaaS in their business. These numbers indicate that SaaS solutions are gaining popularity among small and medium enterprises.
The survey also shows that 78 percent of small enterprises as well as 31 percent of medium enterprises are implementing a combination of on-site enterprise applications and SaaS solutions or the hybrid model. The cloud related spending of SMBs all over the world is estimated to rise up to $95 billion by the year 2014. In midst of this, SMBs are obviously looking towards SaaS as a potential and efficient solution. It is estimated that 20 percent SMBs in the United States are planning to use SaaS solutions.
Senior Associate at AMI, Yedda Chew, was of the opinion that even if cloud computing is viewed as the next IT platform; SMBs will definitely consider and favor the cost-effective SaaS model in the upcoming future. The research conducted by AMI indicates that certain enterprise applications will accelerate the requirement of on demand SaaS solutions in SMBs along with on-site deployment. These kinds of applications include email clients, online backup and storage solutions, and data management and collaboration platforms. The survey reveals that 134,000 enterprises are planning to employ such types of applications. This growing popularity for SaaS can prove to be beneficial for IT infrastructure and enterprise solutions providers. There are around 129,000 enterprises that don’t use SaaS but are looking for online backup and storage solutions. Also, there are 125,000 looking for data management and collaboration platforms and services.
