Government lured by Virtualization Technologies

The cost-effective nature of virtualization has been a key for it to establish its foothold in the enterprises. It will not come as a surprise when the same thing is appealing and attracting governments. The CDW Government LLC released the “2010 Government Virtualization Report” recently which is an annual report prepared after a survey of 600 IT managers present in the local, federal and state government bodies.

It was found that as much as 77 percent of the agencies have deployed one or the other form of virtualization. Out of these agencies, 89 percent have responded that they are being benefited with the use of virtualization technologies. Majority of the surveyed respondents had a view to deploy virtualization techniques completely across clients, servers and storage by the year 2015. Server virtualization is the most popular implementation of the technology and 91 percent of the respondents plan on having it. Storage and desktop virtualization are also not behind with 84 percent managers saying that sooner or later they will be deploying it across their systems.

However, 81 percent of the respondents feel that they are not using virtualization techniques to their complete extent. Whereas, 33 percent have employed a strategy by which virtualization always comes first. The benefits of deploying virtualization are on the similar lines of those that are enjoyed by enterprises. Reduced costs for the operations, an improvement in utilizing computing resources and greater productivity of IT related employees are the benefits that the agencies are enjoying according to the report.

With all these positive numbers and responses that favor the deployment and use of virtualization techniques for their high performance and cost-effective solutions, there is no doubt that virtualization is luring the government.
